Village Board members and staff tour new RICE units

On October 13, 2023, Village President Chris Voll; Trustees Kelly Coyle, Chris Eiden, Alex Vedvik, and Tim Shaw; and members of the Village staff toured Wisconsin Public Service’s newly completed reciprocating internal combustion engines, or RICE units.

The units sit within the Village’s borders. They provide energy using natural gas. This is the first facility of its kind in Wisconsin. The facility is able to produce enough energy to power more than 77,000 homes.

Construction on the units began in May 2022. They were up and running by July 2023.

The units do not run every day. Instead, they are available when an energy need arises.

The Village will receive tax revenue from the new facility starting in 2025.
