Contest your 2022 property taxes - Open Book and Board of Review dates set

Not happy with your 2022 property tax bill? Now is the time to dispute it.

Set up an appointment to discuss your concerns with an assessor during the Open Book period. The Open Book period is set for Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. These appointments will occur via phone, email, or virtually.

If you don’t agree with the decision made after the Open Book period, you can attend the Board of Review meeting on April 26, June 1, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Kronenwetter Municipal Center.

“The Open Book is an informal discussion that may provide validation or correction of a property’s assessed value. However, should a resident feel that their assessed value is still incorrect after meeting with the assessor, their second avenue for discussing their assessed value would be with the Board of Review,” said Village Clerk Bobbi Jo Birk-LaBarge. “The Board of Review is the last option for adjusting assessments and correcting any errors or omissions related to the property assessments used for calculating property taxes.”

During the Board of Review the property owner can challenge the assessor’s decision.
