Check Your Absentee Ballots

Important: Some recent absentee ballots for the 2023 Spring Primary Election taking place on February 21, 2023 were mailed to voters without the clerk/deputy clerk’s initials. Having a clerk/deputy clerk initial an absentee ballot is an additional measure and something voters should be looking for to reassure their ballot is authentic and official. If you recently requested an absentee ballot be mailed out to you, please check your absentee ballots for two errors. The Village of Kronenwetter mailed early absentee ballots out on January 30th and 31st. Due to an oversight, some ballots are missing the clerk/deputy clerk initials. If you have received an absentee ballot missing a clerk/deputy clerk initial, please call the clerk’s office at 715-693-4200 or email the clerk at bbirklabarge@kronenwetter.org or deputy clerk at jpoyer@kronenwetter.org or stop in the municipal center during normal operational hours M-F 8:00am until 4:30pm. We will deactivate your ballot and re-issue you a new ballot. This information was immediately posted on the Village’s social media site and will be posted on the Village’s media page. We understand residents are concerned and we wanted to address the remedy immediately. There is still plenty of time to request a new absentee ballot.

Secondly: A few residents inadvertently received our test ballots. If you received a test ballot with computer generated ovals filled in, please contact the Village of Kronenwetter immediately and we will issue you a new, fillable ballot.

With so many accusations of voter fraud that have been happening in the past few years, the Village wants to assure the voters this is definitely not the case. It was a human error, an oversight and a mistake that will take extra work to remedy by the clerk and deputy clerk, but it will be remedied. Any future ballots mailed out WILL be triple checked to assure a set of clerk/deputy clerk initials are on the absentee ballots.
