BURN PERMITS

BURN PERMITS

Be it a friendly campfire or a fire to get rid of some brush on your property, the Kronenwetter Fire Department would strongly encourage you to know the rules before you burn.  Read the Burning Guidelines here.

The Fire Department also asks residents to check out the current fire danger level, prior to having a fire on a property.
Check FIRE DANGER LEVEL HERE.

The Village requires all property owners to have a burn permit before any OPEN BURNING is to take place.
Burn permits are available FREE of charge and are issued for 90 days.

A Village of Kronenwetter burn permit can be obtained from the fire chief or his/her designee at the Kronenwetter Municipal Center at 1582 Kronenwetter Drive, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Outside of Village office hours, you can call the fire chief to obtain a permit.
Burn permits from the Department of Natural Resources will not suffice. You must obtain a Village issued burn permit.

RECREATIONAL BURNING does not require a burn permit.

RECREATIONAL BURNING vs. OPEN BURNING
Recreational burning takes place in a fire pit.
Fire pits must be at least 8 inches deep and have a maximum diameter of 4 feet.
Portable "Weber" type devices are allowed, but they must be placed on a non-combustible surface, and the fire may not exceed 4 feet from the ground.
Underground fire pits must be surrounded by non-combustible material such as concrete blocks or bricks.
Fire pits must be at least 15 feet from any structure.

Open burning is a fire not contained in a fire pit.
This type of burning is only allowed between 6 p.m. and 12 a.m. (midnight).
It is not allowed on legal holidays and Sundays.
It is not allowed within 25 feet of a structure.
It is only allowed when conditions for burning are favorable with regard to wind direction and speed.
It is only allowed without a permit when there is a least one inch of continuous snow coverage.

PERMIT NOT NEEDED

As a friendly reminder from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the DNR has recruited Smokey the Bear to produce a video that teaches you about the rules of burning debris.
