PATROL K-9 PROGRAM
The Kronenwetter Police Department K-9 Unit was formed in 2010. The purpose of our K-9 unit is to provide primary service to our community and mutual-aid assistance to our neighboring communities. The goal of the unit is to deter, identify and apprehend crime in the community. Our K-9 is certified as a dual-purpose patrol dog. This type of dog can indicate to the odor of narcotics, human tracking for fleeing felons and missing persons, area searches for persons, evidence recovery, suspect apprehension and handler protection. If you would like to learn more about the K-9 unit, contact K-9 Officer Luis Lopes-Serrao.

The police department is currently in a period of transition between two dogs. We are in the process of fundraising to raise money to support our next dog and the continuation of the program. If you would like to donate, look below.
In 2009, officers identified a connection between the increase in property crimes such as residential and vehicle burglaries and drug related crimes. The department applied for and received a $15,000 WI Department of Justice grant for the purchase, equipment and training needed for the formation of the program. An additional $4,000 traffic safety grant allowed the department to purchase emergency vehicle equipment needed for the K-9 squad car. In February 2010, the department aquired K-9 "Chip" through the Little Rock K-9 Academy in Little Rock, AR. The team worked together through March 2012 when K-9 "Chip" passed away from an infection called "Blastomycosis". (Click here for original press release)
In May 2012 the B.A. and Esther Greenheck Foundation informed our department they would make a donation toward the continuation of the K-9 program. The foundation donation offer, along with other business and individual sponsors, will allow the department to aquire a new K-9 and continue the program.

To Help Sponsor The K-9 Unit
The grant helped us cover the large costs associated with starting a K-9 unit, but does not cover the maintenance costs we will incur with the unit for dog food, vet care, etc. If there are any businesses or residents that would like to donate to the unit, we would greatly appreciate your support. You can click on the link below or mail a check to the Kronenwetter PD "Attn Canine Unit". If you have any questions or would like to arrange a meeting with our unit please contact Officer Luis Lopes-Serrao by e-mail or at 715.693.4215 x 26.
